Jonathan Elsalam, a 28 year old former Bellport High School social studiesteacher, was acquitted of rape charges for having sex with an underage student but was convicted ofa misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child.  Elsalam, of Ridge, was found notguilty of two counts of third-degree rape and four counts of third-degree criminal sexualact.  He resigned after a months long relationship came to light in September 2012 and faces amaximum of a year in jail when sentenced on May 9, the victim’s 19th birthday.  The verdictensures

Andrea Clevenger, an Arkansas mother who appeared on a reality television show, was sentencedto prison for the sexual assault of a 13 year old family friend.  Clevenger, of TLC’s ‘CheerPerfection,’ a show about competitive cheerleaders, pleaded guilty to one count of first degreesexual assault and engaging a child in sexually explicit conduct.  She received two 10-yearprison sentences and two 10-year suspended sentences.  She must also register as a sexoffender.
