A 72-year-old Edgecombe County man who spent 25 years as an Edgecombe County school counselor and previously listed his occupation as a pastor on his Facebook page was convicted on four counts of attempted first-degree statutory sex offense on Feb. 23 in Edgecombe County Superior Court.

News of the conviction was posted on the District Attorney’s Office’s Facebook page.

Melvin Ray Williamson was sentenced to a prison term of 15 to 23 years and is required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

LONDON — The Hay Festival, an annual staple of Britain’s literary calendar, announced on Monday that an offshoot event to promote freedom of speech and women’s empowerment would no longer be held in Abu Dhabi after one of its employees accused the United Arab Emirates’ minister of tolerance of sexual assault.

Dievais Surin, a 72 year old Brooklyn minister, was convicted of sexuallyabusing an 11 year old girl.  Surin, a pastor at the Original Church of God of Prophesy, wasfound guilty of fondling the girl and having her fondle him eight times between April 1998 andSeptember 1999.  He faces up to 56 years in prison when he is sentenced.

A 54 year old Long Island Baptist minister, was convicted yesterday of sexually abusing his young daughters for years.  He was arrested February 9, 2006, after the oldest daughter, now 19, told her mother he had been having sex with her since she was 12.  The minister faces a sentence of probation to more than 50 years in prison.  He still faces rape charges.

Bishop William Waynes, a 47 year old founder and pastor of the New Beginning Outreach Love Center, is charged with statutory rape, a crime that carries a prison term of up to four years.  Waynes went on trial March 24 accused of seducing an underaged church member he allegedly sweet-talked into a bed full of stuffed animals.  He would say that the priest should sleep with the virgin and that’s okay to do this because he loved me, the alleged victim, now 21, told jurors in a hushed courtroom.  Prosecutors

Fifteen New Jersey residents, including a 70 year old retired Presbyterian minister, were bustedyesterday as the feds smashed an international kiddie-porn ring based in Belarus.
