FORMER KANSAS SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR CHILD SEX CRIMES

NORTON, Kan. (KAKE) - A former Kansas City school resource officer was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison for child sex crimes and rape.
Kansas Attorney General said Mark Scheetz was sentenced for two Jessica's Law counts of aggravated criminal sodomy with a child younger than 14 and two counts of rape. Scheetz was sentenced to life in prison and he will not be eligible for parole for at least 50 years.
Scheetz was also sentenced to 32 months for sexual exploitation of a child and six months of intimidating a witness.
In April, Scheetz was convicted on all counts. The crimes were committed between 2012 and 2015 in Norton County.
Before working as a resource officer, Scheetz worked for the Sheridan County Sheriff's Office from 2016 to 2018.
The case was investigated by the Norton Police Department, Norton County Sheriff's Office, Sheridan County Sheriff's Office, Bonner Springs Police Department, Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.
