NORTON, Kan. (KAKE) – A former Kansas City school resource officer was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison for child sex crimes and rape.
Kansas Attorney General said Mark Scheetz was sentenced for two Jessica’s Law counts of aggravated criminal sodomy with a child younger than 14 and two counts of rape. Scheetz was sentenced to life in prison and he will not be eligible for parole for at least 50 years.
Scheetz was also sentenced to 32 months for sexual exploitation of a child and six months

A Junction City man was found guilty on 22 separate charges, including 21 felony sex crimes, in Linn County Circuit Court on Friday.
Michael Ray Long, 36, was found guilty of 10 counts of first-degree sexual abuse, five counts of second-degree encouraging child sexual abuse, three counts of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration, three counts of first-degree sodomy and one count of strangulation.

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A 61-year-old Wichita man will spend the rest of his life in prison, a Sedgwick County District Court judge ruled on Tuesday (Jan. 12). A Tangent man was arrested Tuesday by the Linn County Sheriff’s Office for multiple sex crimes.
Michael Ray Long, 35, was charged in Linn County Circuit Court on Wednesday afternoon with three counts of first-degree sex abuse, three counts of first-degree sodomy, two counts of first-degree rape, two counts of unlawful sexual penetration, and one count each of third-degree assault and strangulation, according to court paperwork.
The victim in the case is an elementary-school-aged girl whom Long knows.

A Lebanon man was arrested on suspicion of several sex crimes and a child pornography charge on Tuesday afternoon.
Elijah Nathaniel Baker, 18, was charged in Linn County Circuit Court on Wednesday afternoon with three counts of first-degree sex abuse, first-degree sodomy and first-degree encouraging child sexual abuse.
Judge Rachel Kittson-MaQatish set Baker’s bail at $75,000, as requested by the prosecution.
Prosecutor Richard Wijers said the sodomy charge was a Jessica’s Law crime, which carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison.

A federal judge yesterday blocked enforcement of a ballot measure designed to crack down on sex offenders, ruling that the law was unconstitutional just a day after voters overwhelmingly approved it.  The so-called Jessica’s Law prohibits registered sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of a school or park, effectively banning parolees from any California cities.
