FORMER KY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY INDICTED ON CHARGES OF RAPE, OTHER SEX CRIMES AGAINST A MINOR

A former Bath County sheriff’s deputy has been indicted on charges accusing him of sexual crimes against a minor.

Joshua Eugene Preece, 39, of Morehead, is accused of sexually assaulting a minor on Nov. 5, 2018, and he is accused of asking for and receiving sexually graphic images of minors online between November 2017 and October 2018, the Kentucky attorney general’s office said in a news release.

Preece was indicted by a Bath County grand jury on Thursday on one count of third-degree rape, two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, one count of distribution of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor, 14 counts of promoting a sexual performance by a minor and 14 counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor.

Preece was arrested Friday and was being held in the Rowan County Detention Center on $100,000 bond, according to the jail website.

The attorney general’s office, which is prosecuting the case, said the Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force and the Kentucky State Police investigated the case.
