SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS

Daniel Rothbard, a former Valley Stream elementary school teacher and Merrickresident, was arrested for sexually assaulting a 15 year old girl in July 2009. Rothbard, of 1271 Meadowbrook Avenue, Merrick, was a teacher from Valley Stream, District 13,School District.  He was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child and an additionalcharge of Rape 3rd Degree, Criminal Sexual Act 3rd Degree, and Sexual Abuse 3rd Degree. Further investigation by detectives from the Third Squad determined that Rothbard and the victimhad met on-line through MySpace.   He was known as D to the J or DJ.  Anyonewho has had contact with him is asked to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352 or to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
Rothbard, also a camp counselor for about 15 years at Rolling River Day School and Camp inEast Rockaway, pleaded not guilty in First District Court, Central Islip, to the felony charges aswell as the misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child.
Rothbard was sentenced on July 13, 2010, to two years in jail after he had pleadedguilty to two counts of committing a criminal sexual act with a minor.  He has already spent11 months in a Suffolk County jail for statutory rape, which will count as time served toward hisNassau sentence.  A police investigation into Rothbard's online activities led to a secondarrest in Nassau County on September 3, 2009, when he was accused of forcing a 13 year old girlform Suffolk to engage in oral sex in his home with another girl present.  He pleaded guiltyto statutory rape in Suffolk last year and was handed a sentence of six months incarceration and 10years probation.
