A first-year city councilman in a Kansas town is facing accusations of child sex crimes, officials said.
Burrton City Councilman Justin R. Freeman, 39, was arrested Monday by the Harvey County Sheriff’s Office for aggravated indecent liberties with a child, a county spokesman said in a news release.
Freeman was later charged with six counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child, county spokesperson Kyle McCaskey said.
Authorities are treating the allegations facing Freeman with “utmost seriousness,” Burrton Mayor Rodney Redinger said in a statement.

A 30-year-old Cottondale man is under arrest after a 13-year-old acquaintance was found to be pregnant.
Adarius Deandre Nevels was arrested May 15, according to court records made public this week. He is charged with second-degree sexual abuse, second-degree sodomy, and second-degree rape.
The investigation began in mid-May when the Department of Human Resources notified the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office that the young girl was confirmed to be pregnant, according to charging documents. The girl was then taken to authorities for an interview.

BURBANK, IL — A 22-year-old man recently paroled from the Illinois Department of Corrections has been charged in the sexual assault of a St. Laurence High School student.
