A law firm specializing in representing abuse victims has filed five additional lawsuits against the Archdiocese of Newark alleging priests sexuallly molested children going back decades.
Three of the priests have been credibly accused of abuse in the past, their names and allegations made public by Catholic dioceses in New Jersey. All five are deceased.
The suits were filed by Jeff Anderson & Associates, along with New Jersey attorney Greg Gianforcaro. They have filed numerous similar lawsuits in the Garden State since late 2019, when a new state law

A Harrisburg man was charged in Linn County Circuit Court on Monday afternoon with eight sex crimes against two girls.
Brian Douglas Nelson, 37, was accused of four counts of first-degree sexual abuse and four counts of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration.
The accusers in the case are both under the age of 12.
The crimes allegedly occurred between 2014 and Jan 4 of this year, according to the charging document, and the Linn County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case.
Nelson has no significant criminal history in Oregon.

A former high school receptionist who was indicted in August 2019 on child sex offenses pleaded guilty last month to two felonies.
Leigh Perkins Greene, 53, of Morganton, pleaded guilty to felony disseminate obscene material and felony crimes against nature Dec. 7, according to court documents filed at the Burke County Courthouse.

PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) – A 59-year-old man was convicted of soliciting child pornography online from children in seven states, according to the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office.
The district attorney’s office says David Arnold Cohron was convicted of attempting to use a child in a display of sexually explicit conduct, second-degree online sexual corruption of a child, first-degree encouraging child sexual abuse, and second-degree encouraging child sexual abuse.
Cohron was sentenced to 11 years in prison after he was convicted.

A vice president at Columbia University has been arrested and placed on administrative leave after being accused of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13 at his New Jersey home, officials say.

Marcelo Velez, 46, was taken into custody Monday by the Woodcliff Lake Police Department. He is facing one count of aggravated sexual assault, one count of endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of sexual assault by sexual contact, according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – A Charleston woman has received the maximum prison sentence for child sexual abuse crimes Friday morning.
Roseanna Thompson has been sentenced to 10-20 years each for three different counts of sexual abuse of a child.
Officials in Kanawha County Circuit Court Judge Tera Salango’s office say that these sentences will run consecutively, meaning Thompson will spend 30 to 60 years behind bars.
