A 13 year old West Babylon Junior High School student was accosted at Quentin Street and Weber Avenue about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. A man in a ski mask pulled alongside the teenager and told her to get over here. When she started walking away the van backed up and the man tried pulling her through the back doors and into the vehicle. She struggled and got away unharmed. Christal Jean Jones, a 16 year old Vermont girl who was found dead in a Bronx brothel and linked with an interstate sex-slave ring, was smothered to death. Cops originally thought she might have died of a drug overdose after her body was found inside a Zerega Avenue apartment on January 3rd. She is believed to be one of at least 10 troubled girls lured to the Big Apple with promises of big bucks and big-city excitement, only to find themselves thrust into a world of squalor, prostitution and violence.
A 13 year old girl on her way to a Coney Island community center Monday evening was raped after five young boys who knew her called to her and she approached them. Three boys, ages 10, 10 and 11, fondled her while a 13 year old held her down and another 13 year old boy raped her. The girl went to the Carey Gardens Boys and Girls Club and reported the incident to a counselor. She identified the boys, at least some of whom are also members of the club
The Rev. Fernando Garcia, a minister and former elementary school aide who videotaped himself molesting children pleaded guilty in Greenwood, South Carolina, to sexually abusing nearly two dozen youngsters and was sentenced to 60 years in prison. The 42 year old man pleaded guilty to 47 counts. He has admitted molesting the 23 victims, who are ages 5 to 13, at his church office and at the school. Last October, a 38 year old Moline man walked a few blocks home from a tavern, walked through his house and into a bedroom where his daughter and her 11 year old friend were sleeping in separate beds. The man took off his clothes, got into bed with the 11 year old and put his hand up her shirt, touching her breasts and slept there all night. Two weeks later the girl told her mother that she had been sexually molested and the police were called. The man was arrested
William Elliott, a 60-year-old former West Hempstead Boy Scout leader, was arrested and charged with 20 misdemeanor counts ranging from endangering the welfare of a child to second-degree sex abuse. He is charged with molesting four boys in his troop during the past 14 months.
They ranged in age from 11 to 16 and were members of a troop in West Hempstead which is comprised of 33 Boy Scouts. He pleaded not guilty and was released on $12,000 bail and is to appear in court February 6.
