INTERPOL TIES 80 PERCENT OF WORLD’S CHILD PORN TO JAPAN

It is estimated by Interpol, the international police organization that 80 percent of the world’s commercial child pornography materials found on the Internet are suspected to be produced or distributed from Japan.  According to the Asahi News Service, Japan’s lack of restrictions on distributing child pornography through the Internet could seriously interfere with international attempts to fight the pedophilia crimes.

FRENCH COPS MAKE PEDOPHILIA SWEEP

Dozens of people were detained and 3,000 child pornography videos were seized in a nationwide sweep this week as French police tried to crack a pedophilia network.  Some two dozen of the 55 people detained Wednesday were placed under formal investigation, one step short of being charged, for receiving videos of child pornography.  About 130 investigators took part in the sweep across 34 regions of France.  Police were acting on a tip by one of four men arrested last year on pedophilia charges.  The four men were arrested in Aveyron,

GOVERNOR’S OMMISSION PROPOSED NATION’S FIRST STATE INTERNET POLICY ACT

Policies to guide business over the Internet to strengthen customer privacy and protect computer users from unwanted electronic mail and computer fraud were recommended by a governor’s commission Wednesday.  This proposal would create the first comprehensive state Internet legislation in the nation.  The recommendations will be considered during the General Assembly session that begins in January.

LOUISIANA:  CHILD MOLESTER AGREES TO BE CASTRATED TO CUT 20 YEARS FROM SENTENCE

Jim Elkin, a 45-year-old child molester received an abbreviated sentence Monday after showingthe judge a pathology report that proved he was recently castrated. He was sentenced to 25 years athard labor. He would have been given the maximum of 45 years by State District Judge

Harmon Drew if Elkins had refused the castration. Elkins, who is a former baseball coach,molested boys on his team. He could be eligible for parole in 12 years. He pleaded guilty in Augustto three counts of molesting juveniles over whom he had supervision and control.

Joseph Frank Smith, 45, agreed to a highly publicized chemical castration as part of hisprobation.
