NEW BERN, Craven County — A registered sex offender has been arrested on child sex crimes charges in eastern North Carolina, officials said Monday.

According to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were notified by the Jones County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday that a registered sex offender in Craven County was reportedly having an inappropriate relationship with a child.

Following their joint investigation, officials said Gregory Shirazi Sr. of New Bern has been arrested and charged with the following:

A former Madison Twp. fire chief was arrested Sunday on child sex allegations after a short investigation involving multiple victims, according to officials and court documents.

Ronald E. Miller, 69, of Preble County Line Road in Madison Twp., is charged with two counts of rape and four counts of gross sexual imposition involving three female victims who were between 5 and 14 at the time of the alleged crimes. Some of the charges are connected to crimes allegedly committed several years ago.

Undercover police placed ads on websites commonly sought out by suspects seeking illegal sex acts with children as part of an investigation dubbed Operation Broken Hearts.
