State Senator Brian X. Foley is hoping that legislation passed unanimously by the Senate andall but one vote by the Assembly will be signed by Governor Paterson that will enable parents tosign up for e-mails that will alert them of sex offender in their neighborhood for up to three zipcodes for Level 2 and Level 3 sex offenders.  But Laura Ahearn, executive director of Parentsfor Megan’s Law, said her non-profit organization already has a web site in place that can provide30 zip codes for parents.

Nassau County Legislator David Mejias proposed a bill yesterday aims at barring convicted sexoffenders on probation from having computer access to social Web sites where they could prey onyoungsters.  Sex offenders who used a computer in their crime could be required to registertheir computers with the county and allow the installation of monitoring software as a condition ofprobation.

Governor Chet Culver and the local lawmakers agreed on improvements to Iowa’s sex offendermonitoring laws.  The governor called it a tougher, smarter way of dealing with theissue.  The measure establishes a 1-2-3 tier system and overhauls a state law banning sexoffender from living with 2,000 feet of places children gather.  It would instead prohibitoffenders from being in those facilities without prior approval.  Under the new law, only theworst offenders, in tier 3, would still be subject to the 2,000 foot living restrictions. They also would be subject to the Iowa

New Jersey Family Policy Council

Last week, The New Jersey State Supreme Court RULED 6-0 against the safety of our childrenand in favor of convicted sex offenders by denying towns the right to restrict where sex offendersmay live.  The Court said towns cannot bar sex offenders from living within a designateddistance of any school, park, playground, public library, or daycare center.
