A former social worker with the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services has received eight years in prison for sex crimes involving two teenage boys under her care.

Lauren Rose Cavness, 27, of Tishomingo, appeared Wednesday before Tishomingo County Circuit Judge Kelly Mims, the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reported. He sentenced her to 71 years for three felony charges but suspended most of it. Because she was in a position of trust, Cavness must serve the whole eight years and cannot seek time off for good behavior.

A Mississippi-based U.S. Navy senior chief is facing court-marital over allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman and threatened to distribute nude photos on social media, among other alleged crimes, according to charge sheets.

Prosecutors allege Senior Chief Construction Mechanic Luis H. Garcia sexually assaulted the woman in Guam on Sept. 16, 2018. The woman’s name is redacted in the charge sheet copy provided to Navy Times.

Garcia is also charged on the same date for violating the Navy’s sexual harassment policy when he allegedly kissed the neck

A Madison County man will serve 20 years in prison after pleading guilty in a child exploitationcase according to the Attorney General’s office.

Timothy Flanagan, 40, pleaded guilty to one count of child exploitation on Monday in MadisonCounty Circuit Court. Attorney General Jim Hood’s office said Flanagan was arrested in Flora inAugust 2016 by investigators with the AG’s cyber crime unit and the Madison County Sheriff’sDepartment.

An investigation revealed he had been downloading child porn, officials said.

Michael Paul Slattery, 45, has been accused of trying to use the Internet to arrange a sexual encounter with a person he believed to be a 15 year old girl who was actually law enforcement officers.  According to the Associated Press, he was initially arrested by Southaven police officers and the FBI on November 12th and was indicted on the charge Wednesday by a federal grand jury in Oxford and rearrested Thursday.  He is free on $10,000 bond.  The use of the Internet to arrange sexual activity with a minor
