A South Florida man accused the Rev. Anthony Mercieca yesterday of molesting him almost 30 years ago, the same priest former US Rep Mark Foley alleges sexually abused him. In a suit filed against the Archdiocese of Miami in Miami-Dade Circuit Court, the unidentified man said Mercieca fondled and performed oral sex on him when he was 12 or 13 years old.

About 650 sexual predators on parole in the Big apple will be placed under surveillance onHalloween to make certain they are at home and away from trick-or-treaters. Paroled pedophiles,rapists and molesters will also have their DVD movies checked during surprise visits next Tuesdayto determine if they are secretly hiding X-rated flicks or other prohibited porno materials. OnHalloween, paroled perverts have to remain at home from 3 p.m. until 6 a.m. November 1 and arebarred from donning masks or costumes. They also cannot participate in any seasonal festivities
Dangerous, convicted sex offenders in Nassau County, including child molesters, are being monitored only during business hours, not at night, or on weekends and holidays. It was discovered that sex offenders wearing court-ordered ankle bracelets are not being monitored around the clock.

News that large clusters of sex offenders exist in more than a dozen communities across Long Island provoked reaction yesterday ranging from fears that property values will plunge, to demands that elected officials address the problem, to proposals that cluster communities band together to prevent saturation. Civic leaders in Gordon Heights, which along with Coram is home to 39 offenders, Long Island’s largest cluster, said they have begun reaching out to other neighborhoods to find ways to reduce the density of offenders in their communities.

Ten years ago state sex offender registries were established to allow residents to locate sex offenders in the neighborhoods. But some experts worry the registries also allow those who loathe the presence of sex offenders to take matters into their own hands. A single apartment building in Syracuse contains what might be the largest sex offender cluster. Fifty-six registered sex offenders, 31 of whom are designated Level 3, the state’s most dangerous classification. For the past 14 years, the state Division of Parole has been steering offenders to the Snowdon Apartments. State parole officers monitor 50 of the 56 offenders at the Snowdon. Despite the heavy concentration of offenders, parole officials report no new crimes by the offenders in the 14 years they’ve been in the building.
