According to New York State Sex Offender Registry data, more than a dozen clusters of sex offenders have developed across the southern half of Long Island.  Of these, the eight largest clusters including the biggest in Coram/Gordon Heights, which was profiled in Newsday last month, have anywhere from 11 to 39 registered sex offenders within a one-mile radius.  These large clusters are in communities that are strikingly similar – populated with lower-income residents than the towns and hamlets of the pricey North Shore or eastern Suffolk County, where such clusters

Francis DeLuca, a 77 year old former Catholic priest, was accused last week of sexually abusing a boy five or six years ago.  DeLuca had been barred from the ministry in 1993 after his former diocese in Delaware found he had abused about three or four children there.  He is now charged with sexual abuse of a boy who was 12 or 13 at the time.  He is now 18.

Malcolm Watson, a 35 year old former Buffalo school teacher, was convicted of having sex with a 15 year old student and has been ordered by a judge to leave the United States for the next three years, returning only to meet with his probation officer.  Watson agreed to the sentence to avoid as much as a year in jail after pleading guilty to endangering a child and third degree sexual abuse, both misdemeanors.

Timothy Baker, a 54 year old violinist from New York, has been accused of donning a fake moustache and going to a Texas hotel to have sex with a 16 year old girl he met a music camp last summer. He was arraigned on two counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of indecency with a child and released from the Randall County Jail after posting $100,000 bond. Mark Foley, the disgraced Florida lawmaker who quit last week after revelations about explicit messages he sent to a teenage former House page surfaced, has begun seeking treatment at a rehabilitation facility for alcoholism.   On October 3, Foley’s lawyer said that a clergyman had molested his client between ages 13 and 15, and confirmed for the fist time that Foley is gay.  Rev.
