Evidence of Alleged Sexual Abuse to be Reviewed in Menendez Brothers Case, Prosecutors Say

On the heels of the controversial Netflix true-crime drama about Erik and Lyle Menendez, Los Angeles prosecutors announced they are reviewing new evidence of alleged sexual abuse brought forth by the brothers’ attorneys.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón spoke about the ongoing review concerning the 1989 double homicide during a news conference on Thursday.

“I know this is an area of tremendous interest nationally, especially since the Netflix documentary came out,” Gascón said about the case. “We’re getting a lot of calls.”

Gov. Hochul Announces $35 Million in Funding for Domestic Violence Safety Improvements

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Wednesday announced the state is investing millions to improve its public safety response to domestic violence.

The state is providing a record $35 million to better address the needs of victims and survivors of intimate partner abuse.

“If you are in the category of someone who abuses an intimate partner or a former partner or anybody, we’re coming after you,” Hochul said. “We’ve had enough.”

The funding will be divided, with $5 million to be shared amongst the District Attorney’s offices across the five boroughs.

A Long Island man formally confessed to sexually abusing a 3-year-old child and then sharing video of the act online.

Dakota Rose, age 25, of East Northport, pleaded guilty to use of a child in a sexual performance and related charges in Suffolk County Court on Monday, Sept. 30.

It came months after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) contacted Suffolk County Police in February 2024 saying an East Northport resident had shared a video of child sexual abuse on social media.

A level 3 sex offender was arrested on Friday for allegedly impersonating a Department of Social Services employee in order to sexually abuse and rob a disabled shelter resident, according to Suffolk County Police.

Suffolk County Police today arrested a registered sex offender for possession of child pornography.

During a routine check of Keith Schoelermann, a Level 2 Sex Offender, by Suffolk County Probation officers, an unregistered cellphone was located which contained child pornography. Probation officers and Suffolk County Police Computer Crimes Unit detectives, along with Seventh Precinct Community Support Unit officers, subsequently executed a search warrant at Schoelermann’s home.
