Nassau and Suffolk police say the case of a Massachusetts teenager allegedly being held against her will and sexually assaulted by people she met online is the most extreme they have seen on Long Island. Statistics haven’t been kept to document Internet-related crimes and solicitation because cases go to various units, according to authorities for both counties. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children suggests the following to protect children:

Mark Weisberg, a 50 year old John Adams High School English teacher, was indicted for repeatedly sodomizing a 15 year old student after she told her parents – four years later. Weisberg is charged with sexually abusing the girl during a 10 month period in 1996 and 1997, when he taught at Martin Van Buren High School. Nushawn Williams, blamed for knowingly infecting at least 13 women with HIV, told a parole board last week he keeps in contact with some of the women who health officials believe he exposed to the AIDS virus. He told them that he was not in contact with the then 13 and 15 year old girls with whom he acknowledged having sex. Officer Jeff Ferrara of Highway 1 collared a 37 year old Bronx man around 9 a.m. after discovering him raping an 11 year old girl inside a Nissan Quest parked on the shoulder of the Cross Bronx Expressway at Monroe Avenue. The man is charged with rape, sexual abuse and child endangerment. Because of his relationship to the young girl, his name is being withheld to protect the child’s privacy.

Thomas Reedy, 37, and his wife, Janice, 31, both of Fort Worth, had a Web site that served as a gateway to a world of kiddie porn. The site provided access to sites based in Russia and Indonesia that showed children as young as 4 years old engaged in sex acts. Along with R.W. Tommy Lee Sells, a 35 year old drifter, was charged with the murder of 13 year old Kaylene Harris. While in custody, Sells recounted a 22 year long crime and murder spree spanning several states. In the early morning hours of December 31, 1999, 10 year old Krystal Surles and her friend Kaylene, were brutally attacked by a knife-wielding Sells, who slashed their throats. Kaylene died but Krystal walked to a neighbor’s house for help and survived. She helped police identify the killer despite her injuries. Sells was arrested two
