A Florida judge has dropped the Diocese of Rockville Centre from a sexual misconduct lawsuit, saying the man who filed it waited too long to accuse church officials of negligence.  The Palm Beach Diocese, which also had been named, was dropped too.  That left only one defendant, a former Long Island priest, the Rev. Matthew Fitzgerald.  The man who had sued the dioceses said they failed to protect him from Fitzgerald, who was transferred in the 1980s to Palm beach, where the suit was filed in June 2002.  The lawsuit

Gregorio Rios, a 33 year old Uniondale man, was arrested April 18 and charged with raping a 13 year old girl at his home early last month.  Rios, of 389 Greengrove Avenue, was arrested at 7 p.m. while working as a busboy at Cafe Girasole, a restaurant on Oyster Bay Road in East Norwich.  He picked up the victim on March 3 at noon and drove her to his home, where he raped her.  He then drove her to her home and she told police about the alleged attack.  Rios

Thirty-four men yesterday sued Long Island’s Catholic diocese for more than $1 billion, saying church leaders did little or nothing to stop priests who sexually abused them as children.

John Phillips, a 19 year old Uniondale youth counselor, was arraigned April 4 on charges that he sexually abused a teenager at a recreation center and made inappropriate sexual comments to others.  Phillips, of 689 Lafayette Avenue, was ordered held in lieu of $1,500 bail.  He is charged with third degree sexual abuse, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and fourth degree possession of a dangerous weapon, for purchasing brass knuckles.  An investigation into his conduct began on March 27 after staff members at the Uniondale Community
