The Suffolk County district attorney’s office plans to empanel a special grand jury to investigate sexual abuse allegations against priests in the Diocese of Rockville Centre and how the diocese handled those allegations. Jay Marcus, a 45 year old Westbury carpenter, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for receiving and possessing child pornography. A defense attorney for Marcus told jurors that they were likely to be revolted by his client’s alleged activities. The government will show you images that are such you may want to throw up. Long Island’s Roman Catholic diocese revealed yesterday that it paid out $2.3 million from 1985 until last year to settle lawsuits arising from sexual abuse by priests, counsel victims and treat molesters.  The Diocese of Rockville Centre has nearly $11 million left in a fund to cover costs related to sexually abusive clerics.
