Twenty years before he was drummed out of the priesthood for molesting boy, the Rev. Brian McKeon told the pastor of his first church that he had acted inappropriately with a teenager.  Nothing, however, was done.  McKeon’s supervisor at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in East Northport, Msgr. Edward Donnelly said, I thought it was just a one-time thing.  Donnelly talked with the boy, but never asked him or McKeon what actually happened.  I didn’t want to know, he said, adding that such things can run the gamut.

Bishop William Murphy yesterday strongly defended the Catholic Church in a Palm Sunday homily that provoked a rousing round of applause from the faithful.  In the face of growing concern over sexual abuse by clergy, he called it a holy church of good and holy priests.  Murphy said Catholics already have done the right things.  We have already place our house in order, while not directly citing allegations of sexual abuse against minors by some priests and the church’s alleged cover-up of the issue.

Matthew Maurer, 39, and his brother Dan, 41, say they were molested by the Rev. Thomas Bliss, 18, pleaded guilty last November to two counts of endangering the welfare of achild in the midst of a bench trial before County Court Judge Louis Ohlig in which the victims,ages 13 and 16, testified. A 35 year old New York City police officer has been arrested and charged with sodomizing his teenage daughter at his East Islip home on New Year’s Eve.  Police believe he has been sexually abusing his daughter for about five years, but he has only been charged with the recent incident.  The officer was reported by the girls boyfriend early this month.  He was arraigned on one count of third-degree sodomy, a felony, yesterday.  He pleaded not guilty and was released on bail of $15,000 cash or $45,000 bond.  Third-degree

Jose Saldana Mejia, a 19 year old Holtsville man, was sentenced yesterday to six months in the Suffolk County jail for taking a 13-year-old neighbor to Oklahoma in November.  He picked up the girl in his car after she left for school one morning in November and drove her to Enid, Oklahoma where he had relatives.  Mejia was arrested three days after she was reported missing.  He was charged with first-degree kidnapping but under a deal with prosecutors pleaded guilty last month to unlawful imprisonment.  A statutory rape charge is
