A federal judge in Missouri on Monday temporarily blocked parts of a new state law thatrequires sexual offenders to remain in their homes on Halloween evening and to avoid any contactwith children related to the holiday.

Elie Quinonez, 35, of Pueblo, Colorado, was sentenced earlier this week to serve 72 months (6years) in federal prison for possessing child pornography. Quinonez was a church pastor aswell as a correctional officer in Weld County. He is free on bond and was ordered to reportto a facility chosen by the Bureau of Prisons within 15 days of designation. Following hissix year prison sentence, he was ordered to serve an additional 5 years of supervisedrelease. Quinonez was also ordered to register as a sex offender and cooperate in thecollection

Misdemeanor sex offenders will now be barred from getting real estate agent and brokerlicenses under a new state law. Felons have almost always been barred from getting state licenses -unless they won administrative hearings or got pardoned – but when it came to misdemeanors,including sex related offenses, the New York State Department of State, which oversees licensing,had more flexibility in licensing.

Brookhaven Town enacted a landmark measure yesterday that makes it illegal for more than tworegistered sex offenders to live in the same single-family home.
