SERB CAMP COMMANDER PLEADS INNOCENT

Dragan Nikolic, 43, a Bosnian Serb detention camp commander pleaded innocent today to 80 counts of rape, torture, murder and other war crimes more than five years after he was indicted by a UN tribunal.  The indictment charges him with war crimes, crimes against humanity and grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions.  If he is found guilty of any single charge, he could be sentenced to life in prison.

WOMAN, 87, RAPED IN NURSING HOME CHAPEL

Rex V. Weston, 41, of Anchorage, has been charged with raping an 87 year old woman who is a resident at the Providence Extended Care Center.  The man approached the reception desk and asked to meet with someone at the home but the receptionist could not understand him and directed him to speak to someone else.  He wandered off and entered the room of the woman who was having dinner.  He then forced her into the chapel and raped her.  Her screams were heard by employees who ran in and

ROBBERS SHOOT ALLEGED CHILD MOLESTER (Fugitive Gunned Down Delivering Pizza, Evenutally Arrested)

Wilbur Lee Ellison, a 43 year old Alabama fugitive wanted on sexual abuse charges, is under arrest in Texas after he was shot and seriously wounded by robbers while delivering pizzas there.  In March 1996, he allegedly traveled from Shelby County, Alabama to Jacksonville, Florida with two of his children and three others from the neighborhood.  The children ranged in age from 8 to 13 years at that time.  He allegedly had sexual contact with at least one of the juveniles.  He has been living in Port Arthur, Texas, under

SEX MOLEST SUSPECT JUMPS OFF BRIDGE

Brian Alexander Ward, 39, jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge Wednesday as police chased and tried to arrest him.  He was suspected of molesting a 4 year old boy who lived at the same Sausalito home of Ward.  When Ward spotted officers he fled in his truck.  The officer pursued him but when he got onto the bridge he got out of the car and jumped into the water.  His body was not found.  Police said Ward was a high-risk sex offender with previous convictions.

SEX OFFENDERS NAMED ON PARENTS’ WEB SITE

Parents for Megan’s law is a group unhappy with the state’s progress of putting the names and addresses of convicted sex offenders online, so the group has culled the information on sex offenders released to police departments and put it on its Web site.  A 1996 law requires convicted sex offenders to register with their local police departments upon their release from prison.  According to the New York post, as many as 2,700 others who have been protected from public notification could be added after the state holds hearings to

WEB SITE PUBLISHES SEX OFFENDER DATA

In the past, information about high-risk sexual offenders was available only through local police departments or through a state-run hotline that charges $5 per inquiry.  A new Web site, www.parentsformeganslaw.com, lists the names, addresses and other information about high-risk sexual offenders who have been released from prison and are living throughout New York.
