HOURS BEFORE HIS TRIAL, ACCUSED KILLS PROSECUTOR

Eddie Vaughn, 49, was charged with child molesting involving a child under 12.  But, just hours before he was due to go on trial, he blasted his way into Commonwealth’s Attorney Fred Capps home where both men died in a shootout.

The prosecutor was shot multiple times and died at the scene.  Two shots from Capps’ gun killed Vaughn.

RETIRED ARMY MAJOR PLEADS GUILTY TO ATTEMPTED MOLESTATION

John W. Davis, 44, a retired Army major, pleaded guilty to attempted child molestation.  Under a plea bargain, he will be sentenced to up to five years’ probation.  According to the Associated Press, he was caught in an Internet sting when a police officer posed as a mother who told him that he could have sex with her 12 and 14 year old daughters.  He was released on his own recognizance and sentencing is scheduled for August 1st.

TEACHER CLEARED IN SEX ABUSE CASE

Christopher Strain, 38, a Westhampton Beach high school science teacher, was acquitted of second-degree sex abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.  He had lost his job after a 12 year old girl, who was visiting his home with her family, accused him of touching her inappropriately.

JUDGE GIVES DAVIS TWO LIFE SENTENCES IN SEX ABUSE CASE

Donald Andre Davis, a 43 year old man convicted of four sex related charges involving a 9 year old child, was given two consecutive life sentences Tuesday plus two 20 year prison terms.  He was convicted of first degree sodomy, first degree rape, first degree sexual abuse and possession of child pornography.  In addition to sexually abusing the child, Davis was convicted of possessing pornographic pictures of the child and other children.  He was sentenced to life in prison with the opportunity for parole for the sodomy and rape convictions.

SUSPECT IN CHILD SEX ABUSE CASE FOUND

James Farentino Madden, a 27 year old Florence man in hiding from police for more than a week, was apprehended late Saturday in a motel near Birmingham and was returned to the Shoals to face child sex abuse charges.  Madden faces four counts of sexual abuse and four counts of enticing a child to propose a sexual act.  He was being held without bond Sunday at the Florence-Lauderdale Detention Center.  Each charge is a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.  He is accused of fondling two boys,
