Joanne L. Talazus, the principal of Longview Elementary School, faces up to four years in prison after a grand jury indicted her for failing to stop a school counselor from sexually molesting students. She is charged with felony child abuse and misdemeanor neglect after she allegedly ignored reports going back to 1994 that counselor Ronald Maldonado Ruelas had been molesting students. Talazus had allegedly seen the injuries on some of the children and received reports that children had been abused, but did nothing about them. Ruelas was indicted in February
Japan’s lower house of Parliament today banned the production and sale of child pornography and outlawed sex with a minor, answering mounting criticism over the country’s lax sex-crime laws. The new law bans the sale, distribution, production, possession and trading of child pornography and imposes punishments of up to three years in prison or fines of up to $24,400 for violators. Laura Ahearn, a certified social worker and mother of two daughters discovered more than two years after New York enacted the Sex Offender Registration Act of 1996 (Megan’s Law), that the Suffolk County Police Department had stopped enforcing it. In May 1998, Denny Chin, a Federal judge, ruled that Megan’s Law could not be applied retroactively and the Suffolk County police mistakenly applied the injunction, meant for sex offenders who were on probation, on parole or incarcerated prior to the day the law took effect, to all convicted sex offenders.

Timothy B. Guenther, 26, climbed into the crawl space above the ceiling of a tanning salon tospy on scantily clad patrons reclining in the tanning booths. In Salt Lake City, around 3am on Thursday May 6th, a mother heard muffled screams from her daughter’s second floor bedroom.
