John M. Ballard, 36, of Dayton, Nevada was arrested Wednesday afternoon in a midtown motel onsex charges. He had made arrangement to meet an undercover police detective who was posing on theInternet as a pedophile, at the motel where the detective was to bring a juvenile female. Ballardwas booked on three counts of attempted child molestation and attempted production of childpornography and is being held in the Sacramento County jail in lieu of $600,000 bail. He isscheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. today.

Michael Paul Slattery, 45, has been accused of trying to use the Internet to arrange a sexual encounter with a person he believed to be a 15 year old girl who was actually law enforcement officers. According to the Associated Press, he was initially arrested by Southaven police officers and the FBI on November 12th and was indicted on the charge Wednesday by a federal grand jury in Oxford and rearrested Thursday. Maria Darrosa, 29, of 21 Brentwood Road, Bay Shore, was sentenced to 6-12 years in prison yesterday for first-degree sodomy. Darrosa was caught on videotape last year sexually abusing a Rockville Centre toddler in her charge while babysitting. She apologized for the crime to which she pleaded guilty in September.
