Ronald E. Occhipinti, a 46 year old scoutmaster from Bayside, pleaded guilty on May 8, 2006, to sexually abusing two 13 year old Boy Scouts over a two year period at a Little Neck church.  Occhipinti, of 58-14 East Hampton Boulevard, admitted he sexually abused and took explicit photos of the two boys at the church and at his home.  As a result of his plea to the sex charges he faces a prison term of up to 20 years when he is sentenced June 12.  Occhipinti was a volunteer

Oklahoma yesterday became the fifth state to allow the death penalty for repeat child molesters, although legal scholars questioned the constitutionality of the new state law.  Similar statutes already are in place in Florida, Louisiana and Montana, and South Carolina’s governor signed a similar law on Thursday.  The law makes the death penalty an option for anyone convicted of a second or subsequent conviction for rape, sodomy or lewd molestation involving a child under 14.

Richard Thompson, a 50 year old convicted child molester, was sentenced to 10 years probation instead of the 10 years behind bars that he could have received.  Cheyenne County District Judge Kristine Cecava told the 5 foot 1 man that his crimes deserved a long prison sentence but that he was too small to survive in a state prison.  Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning called the sentence excessively lenient and said his office was working on an immediate appeal.  Thompson was convicted for sexually assaulting a 13 year old girl.

Duffey to over 11 years in federal prison on charges of using acomputer to attempt to entice a minor to engage in sexual activity. William Cuba, a 25 year old cop assigned to Harlem, is accused of having a secret, disgusting obsession: collecting child pornography.  Cuba, a Washington Heights resident assigned to the 28th Precinct in Central Harlem, was arrested January 29, 2005, after an anonymous tipster reported him to the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau.   He was initially charged with 10 counts of possessing child pornography but as many as 100 incriminating pictures were confiscated.
