A former federal corrections officer in Florida has been sentenced to life in prison for child sexual abuse, the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office reports.
Kenneth Slanker, 41, of Inverness, worked as a corrections officer at the Coleman Correctional Complex in Sumter County at the time of his arrest in February 2019. He was found guilty of six child sex abuse charges in February and was sentenced this week, sheriff’s officials said.

An ex-Springboro gym teacher is expected to be resentenced for sex crimes against first grade girls during classes in his first full-time year teaching in the school district.
On June 3, Judge Robert Peeler sentenced John Austin Hopkins, 26, of Springboro to eight years in prison and designated Hopkins a Tier II sex offender, concluding a three-hour sentencing hearing in Warren County Common Pleas Court.

The former Tulare Western High School basketball coach accused of having sex with a student was released from jail without having to fork over any cash.
Alec Denney, 25, was granted release this week by Commissioner Ricky Tripp. He’d been held on a $1.1 million bail.
During his arraignment on Friday, Denney entered a not guilty plea.

DAYTON, Ore. – A 51-year-old who was wanted out of California on sex crimes involving a child was arrested Wednesday night in the city of Dayton, Oregon, the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office said.
Sotero Jose Garcia-Garcia had an open warrant out of San Diego, California for five counts of Lewd or Lascivious Acts with Minor Child under age 14.
