SELDEN MAN CHARGED WITH PUBLIC LEWDNESS

Angel Laporte, a 54 year old registered sex offender from Selden, was arraigned on chargesSunday that he committed multiple cases of public lewdness in Suffolk County during the past ninemonths.  After a woman reported seeing a man performing a lewd at in the Barnes & Noblebookstore on Jericho Turnpike in East Northport, police began investigating.  Laporte is aregistered sex offender in Connecticut and further investigation found that he is a suspect in actsof public lewdness at the Deer Park Public Library on January 5 and the Commack and West

SHIFT ON SEX OFFENDERS

Suffolk County police yesterday unveiled a proposal that would intensify monitoring of thecounty’s 1,016 registered sex offenders and close trailers for homeless offenders on the EastEnd by dispersing them to shelters throughout the county.  Chief of Department James Burketold a county legislative committee that police will work with the Social Services department tomove the 38 homeless sex offenders now housed in trailers in Riverside and Westhampton into thecounty shelter system. SUFFOLK ANNOUNCES PLAN TO CLOSE SEX-OFFENDER TRAILERS

Thursday morning Suffolk police announced the county’s intention to close the controversialEast End trailers that house homeless sex offenders.  Officials call this part of a plan thetoughest monitoring and enforcement program in the nation for all registered sex offenders. The 38 homeless sex offenders now clustered nightly in the trailers in Riverside and Westhamptonwill be spread throughout the county’s existing shelter system, no more than one perfacility.  The county will team with the advocacy group Parents for Megan’s Law to betterproactively monitor registrants and offer more tools for residents

COPS: BROOKLYN MAN PROPOSITIONS SUFFOLK GIRL, 10

John Burke, a 35 year old Brooklyn man, was arrested by Suffolk County Police on Wednesdayfor propositioning a 10 year old girl on Facebook who lives in Suffolk County.  He asked herto engage in a sex act.  He was arrested at his 89 Porter Avenue home and was charged withdisseminating indecent material to a child.

MICHAEL MCBAIN, FORMER NHL PLAYER, GETS PRISON IN CHILD SEX CASE

Michael McBain, a 36 year old former pro hockey player, was sent to prison for four to 15years for sexually assaulting a girl over a four-year period beginning when the girl was 12 yearsold.  The rejected a two to eight year sentence recommended by state officials.  McBainwas also ordered to register for lifetime supervision as a sex offender.  He was arrested July5 on felony sex assault and lewdness with a minor, charges that could have gotten him life inprison.  He pleaded guilty in September to reduced felony charges

RETIRED TEACHER ARRESTED FOR POSSESSING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

Thomas Bouklas, a 64 year old retired teacher and former soccer coach  from St. Johnthe Baptist Diocesan High School in West Islip, was arrested today for possessing child pornographyon his computer in Holbrook.  He was charged with Possessing a Sexual Performance of a Child.
