An early history of frequent abuse produces much sharper hormonal and physical responses to mildly stressful events later in life, according to a new study by Georgia researchers. The findings suggest that the brain patterns laid during childhood trauma persist long after the trauma has ceased.

Gilbert Garza, a 46-year-old Hempstead man, was arrested and charged with two counts of first degree sodomy for sodomizing a 12 year old boy in the bathroom at the Echo Park Pool Tuesday. He pleaded not guilty and was ordered held at the Nassau County Jail on $500,000 cash bail. Daniel Toy, 38, was accused of showing an 8 year old girl pornographic pictures and movies and sexually abusing her over a period of months. A Riverhead jury acquitted the Westhampton man of raping, sodomizing and sexually abusing the girl.
