Three boys ages 8, 9 and 10 were charged with second-degree sexual abuse in connection with the sexual assault of a 10 year old girl on a school bus last week. According to the New York Times, the charge is a misdemeanor and they have been released to their parents pending an appearance at Orange County Intake Services and have been suspended from their elementary school. The bus driver was fired for not investigating the incident in which the driver was told twice what was happening.
New York State is developing an Internet site listing the names and addresses of the worst of the convicted sex offenders living in New York. At least 10 states have already created sex offender Web sites. Convicted sex offenders must register with their local police departments upon their release from jail, under the state’s 1996 Megan’s Law. Officer Darrell Walker, 37, a three-year Lauderhill officer has been charged with molesting four people, authorities said today. The first incident occurred in December when Walker responded to a police call at a home where he met with two girls, ages 11 and 16, and an adult. He allegedly fondled all of them, police said. A complaint was not filed right away but once they filed one, an investigation began immediately. Robert Lee Gaines, 29, also known as Bart Roman, was convicted of sexually attacking three teenage girls in 2 1/2 hours as they headed home after school two years ago. Gaines was found guilty of first-degree attempted rape and three counts of first-degree sex abuse for the attacks. According to Newsday, he is already serving 140 years to life for two rapes in Brooklyn and now faces an additional 100 years to life in prison for the Freeport assaults because he is considered a persistent violent felony offender. Officer John Ferraro, 37, left behind a lengthy suicide note before barricading himself inside his home and fatally shooting himself. Sheriff’s deputies were moving in to arrest him on charges of having sex with a minor. He admitted he had sex with another teen who was a member of the department-sponsored Police Explorer’s unit.
