‘BAY CITY ROLLERS’ STAR SENTENCED FOR CHILD PORN

Derek Longmuir, 48, a former drummer for the 1970’s Scottish pop sensation Bay City Rollers, wassentenced to 300 hours community service after he confessed to having indecent films, videos andphotographs at his house. A British court spared Longmuir from going to prison on

Friday after he admitted possession of child pornography. Police had raided his house after atip-off. He has been suspended from his job at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he was working as asenior nurse.

NEW JERSEY:  NEW JERSEY ISSUES NEW MEGAN’S LAW RULES

Under new guidelines for New Jersey’s Megan’s Law, it is required that anyone notified that a sex offender lives near their home or school to sign papers saying they will not disseminate the information.  Acting on orders from a federal judge, the state attorney general on Thursday issued the guidelines to make sure information about sex offenders isn’t disseminated as widely.  The judge said sex offenders’ privacy rights were being violated under the old system.  Megan’s Law categorizes convicted sex offenders in three levels, based on the perceived danger they

BAPTIST MINISTER CONVICTED OF ABUSE

The Reverend Joseph Combs, a Baptist minister and his wife, Evangeline, were convicted of abusing a girl they took from an orphanage and raised as the family servant.  They were also convicted of kidnapping, among other charges.  The girl, Esther Combs, was taken as a baby from an Indiana orphanage in 1978, she was considered kidnapped because the couple took her with the pretense to adopt her, but never did.  Esther, now 22 and living in another state under a different name, testified that Mrs. Combs beat her with baseball

FUGITIVE RAPIST CAUGHT IN NEW JERSEY

Raymond Alves, a rapist allowed to leave prison without prosecutors knowledge was captured and arrested Tuesday night at 7:40 p.m. at the Annandale train station by police and the FBI.  He had just got off a train from Newark.  The arrest follows a nationwide search for Alves who claimed to have raped and killed more than a dozen women.  He was charged by federal authorities with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and by the Bergen County authorities with failure to register as a convicted sex offender under Megan’s Law.  Alves

THREE GIRLS ASSAULTED AT SWISS SCHOOL

Three teenage girls aged 15 to 16, were sexually assaulted Friday morning at the Aiglon boarding school, near Villars in western Switzerland.  The school reported an intruder, but said no one was sexually attacked.  The school gave a statement that an intruder reportedly entered at about 5:15 a.m. but it said there was no proof of sexual attack.  The girls were sprayed with an anesthetizing gas, and one of them was raped, the Lausanne daily Le Matin said.  Maurice Gehri, spokesman for Vaud canton, or state, police said he could

TENN. KILLER A STEP CLOSER TO DEATH (Court Lifts Stay, Schedules Thursday Execution)
