PENNSYLVANIA:  ‘MEGAN’S LAW’ IS RULED NO VIOLATION OF PRIVACY

A Federal appeals court in Philadelphia upheld Megan’s Law yesterday for the second time, saying that forcing sex offenders to provide personal information to the authorities did not violate their right to privacy.  According to the New York Times, a three-judge panel of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit said sex offenders, like all criminals, forfeited their rights to privacy regarding their crimes.  They are therefore not protected if the police collect and circulate information about their addresses, jobs, crimes, education, physical appearance, auto registrations and

FOUR CHARGED IN DATE-RAPE DRUG DEATH (Allegedly Spiked Soda of 15-Year-Old Girl)

Joshua Cole, 18, of Southgate, Daniel Brayman, 18, and Nicholas Holtschlag, 17, both of Brownstown, and Erick Limmer, 25, of Grosse Ile, are facing life in prison in connection with the death of 15 year old Samantha Reid.  They are also accused of spiking the drinks of two 14 year old girls.  All four men pleaded not guilty and were held on $80,000 bail each.  The girls were drugged with GHB (gamma hydroxybutyrate) and a similar drug called GBL (gamma butyrolactone).  Both cause unconsciousness and memory loss.  GHB has been

ENGINEER IS ARRESTED IN INTERNET SEX STING

Ruben Ortega Ibarra Jr., 32, was jailed on $1 million bail after his arrest on suspicion of soliciting sex with a fictitious 13 year old girl over the Internet.  He is being held on suspicion of an attempted lewd act with a child under 14 and possession and distribution of child pornography.  A police detective posed as the girl during the undercover operation.  Ibarra is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.

BILL REQUIRING CHEMICAL CASTRATION FOR SOME CHILD RAPISTS

A bill requiring some child rapists to submit to chemical castration has passed the Senate on a 26-4 vote.  If a person convicted of first-degree sexual penetration of a child less than 13 who is paroled, it would require them to undergo the treatment and it would extend the length of

MAN, 37, ADMITS ABUSE AND BURGLARY
