Reporter Fred Francis reports on way to keep your children safe from predators on the internet. Experts say when parents don’t talk to their kids, online predators could. One way to fight back is parents can install blocking software in their kids’ computers. Parents must realize that kids do go looking for porn and could end up victims. The only real protection is talking to kids.
Marcus Lawson is a US Customs Service agent and on this particular day his role will be a 32-year-old mother who is married with two kids. He will be calling himself Fastgirl. Someone called Lou emails pictures to Fastgirl, child pornography. Lou just committed a fairly serious federal felony. He is unaware that Fastgirl is actually agent Lawson. Shannon W. Coleman, 24, of Lake Worth used the online screen name SHAWN4LOVE to meet girls. He was arrested on Friday on charges of having sex with underage girls that he met online. His first victim was a 15 year old girl on AOL that he met at her home and brought her to his house where he had sex with her. His second victim was an 11 year old girl on AOL that he met with and later sexually assaulted her in her home. He has been charged with
Jack Hornbeck, 45, used the city’s main library branch computers to distribute and receive kidporn. Hornbeck is a child molester. He was arrested in Van Nuys where he went expecting to meet a family and engage in sexual activity with the children. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is a registered sex offender and was on probation when he was arrested. He was first identified in December 1998, when he was located on the Internet operating a child pornography and child sex club. Using various computers
Charles Carlon, 41, a civilian employee of the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, fired a bullet into his head while alone in a room waiting to be interrogated. He was suspected of using his computer to download child pornography. He apparently died instantly. Carlon’s
body was discovered shortly after 11 a.m. in a training room on the 20th floor of the Roybal federal building with a 45-caliber weapon found beside him. The gun was his personal property and registered in his name. Federal law makes it a felony punishable by five
Dan Foley, submitted an order for five videotapes for a total price of $245 on February 24th, 1998. The videotapes he received through the mail show sex between minors. According to a search warrant, postal agents in Des Moines, Iowa, set up an Internet sting, offering on a message board to sell incest tapes. In April, a package notice was place in his post office box, he was followed home with the package of tapes and arrested. He has been indicted by a federal grand jury on child pornography charges.
