CYBERSEX TEACHER BUSTED: COPS

Adam Ward, a 29 year old White Plains special needs teacher, has been arrested for allegedly sodomizing a 15 year old boy he met in cyberspace.  Ward’s home was searched by police Wednesday after the White Plains high school sophomore bragged to his friend that he was having sex with an older man.  Ward is charged with third-degree sodomy, a charge involving sex with a person under 17, along with third-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

William Ferebee, a 57 year old Jamaica man, was arrested for sexually abusing an 11 year old girl while she slept in her home.  Ferebee, an acquaintance, is charged with sexual abuse, performing a criminal sex act and endangering the welfare of a child.

NEW HAMPSHIRE DIOCESE SETTLES SUITS

The Roman Catholic diocese of Manchester, N.H., agreed to pay $950,000 to settle lawsuits brought by 16 men who said they were molested by priests as far back as 1957.  Eight former priests are accused by the men altogether.  According to the diocese, four have died, two are alive but no longer act as priests, and two left the ministry in the 1960s.  They said no active priests is facing accusations of molestation.

DATE-RAPE DRUG COASTER FAILS TEST

Millions of coasters that test for date-rape drugs in drinks are being bought by colleges around the country.  However, according to forensic scientist Anne Gierlowski, tests at Michigan State show that the coasters failed to react to the date-rape drug known as GHB.

NYPD DAILY CRIME BLOTTER

Cops released a sketch of a man yesterday they say tried to sodomize two girls in Harlem.  The incident occurred February 27 around 4:30 p.m. when the man accosted the girls, ages 9 and 10, riding in an elevator at a housing project on West 126th Street.  He grabbed the girls, exposed himself and demanded oral sex.  The girls resisted and managed to flee.  The girls did not report the incident until four other victims came forward in three different cases.  Another incident that also occurred on February 27 on

SECURITY FOR LITTLE LEAGUES (Sex-offender lists will help screen coaches)

Little League Baseball announced yesterday it will require all local leagues to perform annual checks of their state’s list of registered sex offenders for the names of managers, coaches, umpires and other workers who have regular contact with players.  The rule goes into effect for the 2003 season next spring and leagues failing to comply with the rule could lose their charter and tournament privileges.
