Russell Otis, a 38 year old coach of a prominent high school basketball team, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of having sex with a minor.  The coach, who has not been charged, is from Dominguez High.  Authorities said they are investigating him for suspicion of sexual battery, sodomy and oral copulation with a person under 18.  Otis’ original bail of $50,000 was increased to $100,000.  He posted bail and was released.

Michael Lee Peters, a 30-year-old police officer, is involved in a sex scandal with four teenagePolice Explorers that has brought turmoil to this tiny farming community. Scott Cooper, a 29-year-old Indianapolis narcotics detective, was arrested at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at a gas station and is free on bond after surrendering to face charges of possession of child pornography.  Cooper called police and told them who he was and where he was and tried to make it very clear that he didn’t have a weapon and didn’t want to hurt anyone or to get hurt.  He refused to talk to investigators without a lawyer and was released after posting $25,000 bond.  He was suspended without pay

Pierre Kieron, 17, and Rankin Corey, 19, were arrested yesterday in the rape of a teenage acquaintance.  They were charged with first degree rape of a 14 year old girl.  The sexual assault took place on Friday in a bedroom at Corey’s home, the girl was held down by one of the teens while the other raped her.  She told a friend about the attack and the friend helped her report it to police.  They were arraigned yesterday and no additional information was available on the court proceedings.

Laura Sclater, a 30 year old Barrie teacher, appeared in court yesterday on sex-related charges.  The teacher known for writing sex notes to a 13 year old  student was ordered to appear again November 30 on charges of sexual interference, sexual assault and invitation to sexual touching.  The charges were laid earlier this month after South Simcoe police conducted an investigation based on new information from a 1998 incident.  Two years ago, she wrote 64 innuendo-laced letters to a Grade 8 boy at Goodfellow Public School in Alcona Beach.  In
