MAN WHO SHOT AT HOME OF OFFENDER IS SENTENCED

James Johnson, a 23 year old Linden man, is accused of firing a gun at the residence of a high-risk sex offender last year and was sentenced on Friday to multiple 10 year prison terms.  The June 16th shooting is considered by authorities to be the first and most violent case of vigilantism since New Jersey fully enacted Megan’s Law in January 1998.  Johnson pleaded guilty in November to two weapons charges and an assault count.  He was sentenced to 10 years each on the weapons counts and 18 months

FOUR YEAR SENTENCE FOR MAN IN INTERNET SEX-ABUSE CASE

Richard Patterson, 28, is the first of four men caught seeking underage sex partners on the Internet that was sentenced to four years in prison.  He drove to a mall to meet what he thought would be a 15 year old boy named Rob.  According to the Chicago Tribune, he met Rob on the Internet but Rob turned out to be Sheriff’s Deputy Rick White.  Patterson was convicted of attempted aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE STUDENTS CHARGED IN INTERNET PORN CASE

Two North Carolina State University students have been arrested.  They are accused of storing child pornography on a computer.  Jon Richard Brock, 18, was charged with two counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and Timothy Joseph Gilrane, 22, is charged with first-degree sex offense.  According to the Associated Press, police said Brock stored pictures on his hard drive showing a minor engaged in a sexual act and Gilrane allegedly made the pictures available on a Web site and was trading pictures.

‘PREDATOR’ CAUGHT KIDNAPPING BOY, POLICE SAY (Convicted Rapist Allegedly Grabbed Youth on Boston Street)

Sean Milliken, a 29 year old convicted child rapist, was arrested Wednesday after police allegedly caught him dragging a 10-year-old boy along a city street.  Police were searching for Milliken after four other young boys reported that he offered them money for sex.  He has been described as a real predator with an extensive criminal history of molesting children.  Milliken is charged with attempted kidnapping, endangering the welfare of children and assaulting police and is to be arraigned today in East Boston District Court.  His bail was not immediately available.

COMPUTER PORN BRINGS 39 CRIMINAL CHARGES

John Lee Schaefer, 50, is accused of 39 counts of possessing child pornography, carrying a possible prison term of more than 75 years.  Schaefer, a former technical college employee, learned of an on-going investigation last July and quit his job at Fox Valley Technical College.  Investigators at the state crime lab in Madison recently broke a security code on the man’s desktop computer and discovered images of mostly juvenile males.  He told a college vice president, They took my computer and they’re going to find everything.  The charges carry a
