Former school counselor, minister sentenced for child sex crimes

A 72-year-old Edgecombe County man who spent 25 years as an Edgecombe County school counselor and previously listed his occupation as a pastor on his Facebook page was convicted on four counts of attempted first-degree statutory sex offense on Feb. 23 in Edgecombe County Superior Court.

News of the conviction was posted on the District Attorney’s Office’s Facebook page.

Melvin Ray Williamson was sentenced to a prison term of 15 to 23 years and is required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Former state trooper pleads guilty sexual crimes involving child in Claiborne Parish

HOMER, La. — A former state trooper pleaded guilty this week in Claiborne Parish District Court to sexually assaulting a female relative over a six-year period.

As a result, Mark Eric Keough faces up to 99 years in prison when he is sentenced on May 3.

Keough pleaded guilty on the day he was scheduled for trial, District Attorney Danny Newell’s office said Thursday in a news release.

Bronx couple indicted with sex trafficking charges involving 8 women

Officials have announced the indictment of a Bronx couple who operated a sex trafficking ring since 2018.

The Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Jr. says 38-year-old Kareem Mitchell, a.k.a. “Napoleon”, and his wife 51-year-old Sharice Mitchell were indicted Wednesday for running a sex trafficking operation involving at least eight women since 2018.

ALERT CENTER: Coram man accused of posing as police officer, pulling over at least 2 women

A Coram man is accused of posing as a police officer on more than one occasion.

Police say they are looking for more possible victims.

Police say 37-year-old David Olivari is a real New York state corrections officer.

July 4 murder suspect charged with sex crimes against 13-year-old child

A Haysville man who has been charged with the murder of a 17-year-old Winfield teenager on the Fourth of July in 2021 has been accused of aggravated indecent liberties with a 13-year-old child.

According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, DeLeon is charged with second-degree murder, aggravated assault, and felon in possession of a firearm from the incident on July 4 of last year. These two child porn crimes don’t require sex offender registration. A Kansas bill would change that.

Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt is pushing for lawmakers to require people convicted of certain child pornography crimes to register as sex offenders.

“This is a matter of the law needing to catch up with technology,” Schmidt said in a statement. “Sadly, as the methods of distributing visual depictions of children being sexually abused have expanded, so too must the legal tools available to respond to that sort of illegal behavior that harms kids. This added tool is needed to help prevent more kids from becoming victims.”
