GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) – A psychologist in Grand Haven has been sentenced after pleading guilty in a second case for sex crimes by a mental health professional.

William Kooistra, 58, has been sentenced to nine months’ probation, 60 hours of community service and must pay a $1,404 fine for the abuse that happened in May 2020.

On Jan. 3, Kooistra pleaded guilty to one count of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct by a mental health professional, which is a high court misdemeanor.

He was previously sentenced in 2020 to 45 days in jail

Joseph Belanger, a 61 year old former psychologist who evaluated sex offenders at North Dakota’sstate mental hospital, faces federal charges of possession of child pornography.  He pleadednot guilty yesterday to three counts, including possession and receipt of materials involving thesexual exploitation of minors. Belanger’s trial is scheduled for September 29.

Dr. Charles Bruce Fraelich, a 58 year old Child Psychologist of Ann Arbor, Michigan, was sentenced today by United States District Judge Beverly B. Martin on charges of traveling interstate to have sex with an eleven year old and using the Internet to attempt to coerce and entice a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity.  Fraelich was sentenced to 11 years, 3 months in prison, to be followed by 10 years of supervised release, ordered to pay a fine of $2,000 and ordered to undergo sexual offender counseling and

Diane DeMartini-Scully, a 45 year old school psychologist living in Mattituck, pleaded not guilty to having sex with her then 16 year old male neighbor.  She was being held in the Suffolk County jail in Riverhead on $10,000 bail.  She is charged with third-degree criminal sexual act for two alleged encounters with the boy in May 2005.  DeMartini-Scully is a school psychologist with the East Hampton school district.
