John Evander Couey, a 49 year old registered sex offender, has admitted kidnapping 9 year old Jessica Marie Lunsford from her bedroom February 23, 2005, and killing her.  He confessed to investigators after taking a lie-detector test.  Jessica’s body was found March 19 during an overnight search in a densely wooded area, only about 150 yards from her home.  Couey left Florida on or about March 4 after telling relatives that police would be looking for him.  He was arrested in Augusta, Georgia on March 17 on a probation violation

Robert Weinstein, a 44 year old former East Meadow teacher and registered sex offender, who was more recently an executive at a Manhattan educational foundation, tried to kill himself with a kitchen knife In March 2005 when FBI agents arrived to arrest him on child pornography charges. Alberto Maldonado, 39, was arrested for molesting a 12 year old boy outside the victim’s Arlington home.  Maldonado approached the boy in the front yard of his Lockman Avenue home at around 10 p.m. Sunday.  He is charged with sexual abuse and child endangerment.

Terapon Dang Adhahn, a 42 year old convicted sex offender, was charged Monday with kidnapping,raping and killing 12-year-old Zina Linnik who was snatched away from an alley behind her family’shome during a July Fourth fireworks celebration.
