In 2004 it was discovered by Dave and Laura Cincotta, the parents of six children under age 8, that in recent months, as many as 17 homeless paroled sex offenders had been placed by Suffolk County in emergency housing at the Brook Motel on Sunrise Highway in West Babylon.  According to the state’s online registry, four currently listed as residents there are Level Three offenders, those considered most likely to commit such crimes again.  They’re being warehoused in my neighborhood and there’s too many temptations, said Dave Cincotta, adding that

Parents of students in the Saratoga Springs City School District are about to get a letter warning them that seven convicted Level 2 sex offenders have registered within the district.  Under Megan’s Law, convicted sex offenders must register their address with local police.  Information about them is not available to the public or the press, though the Saratoga Springs Police Department and Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office alert school officials so they can take precautions as well as pass along the warning to parents.

Carlos Rivera and Quaddafi Mcfarlane, both 19, have been arrested for beating and molesting a 16 year old female friend in December in the back seat of a car where the victim was sitting.  Mcfarlane allegedly climbed into the back seat and ripped off her shirt, fondled her and forced her to have sex.  When she fought back and bit Mcfarlane in the groin area, the teens allegedly pummeled her, inflicting severe bruising.  Then they kicked the girl out of their car and drove away.  Both face charges of assault

A Post investigation found that more than a thousand sex fiends, convicted rapists, child molesters and sexual deviants likely to repeat their crimes, live in the five boroughs, but only half are listed on a state-run Web site that is supposed to keep tabs on their whereabouts.  The Web site http://criminaljustic.state.ny.us/nsor/ lists names, addresses, crimes and photos of 614 Level 3, the highest risk offenders.  According to the state Division of Criminal Justice Services, the agency that runs the online registry, 1,236 Level 3 offenders actually live here as of

A group of cyber-vigilantes has turned the tables on sexual predators who use the Internet to lure underage victims.  The operators of the Web site perverted-justice.com pose as kids on the Internet, then expose any men who attempt to engage in online sexual activity.  They pretend to be young girls or boys, and when adult men initiate inappropriate conversations with them, they bait them along, soliciting e-mail pictures and phone numbers and keeping transcripts of their entire online conversations.  Then they post the information on their Web site – transcript,

Governor George E. Pataki, saying he hopes to strengthen Megan’s Law, has proposed legislation that would put the names of all sex offenders on the Internet and crack down on those who fail to tell law enforcement authorities where they live.  Currently the state’s online registry lists information only about those offenders who are considered most likely to commit another sex crime.  The law would post onto the site information about sex offenders the state considers at the moderate and low risk level of offending again.  The governor has proposed
